From Our Council President, David P. Sutton...

The Navy League in Memphis continues to be very active in the support of Sea Services in the Mid-South area. Over the last year, we have actively contributed thousands of dollars to deserving units, individuals, and causes.

The Navy League has supported the local Sea Cadet Unit under the capable direction of LCDR Yancey Black. Sea Cadets is simply an outstanding youth development program.

Scholarships and special recognition awards are presented to students participating in the NROTC Units at the University of Memphis and the University of Mississippi. Annually, a service sword is presented to one outstanding NROTC student at each University.

Each Spring we sponsor an awards banquet where we recognize Mid- South Command Sailors of the Year, Marines of the Year and Coast Guard representatives with monetary and recognition awards. This year’s awards banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at the Memphis Country Club. Buy tickets by clicking on the Awards Dinner page link at left.

Last year our seventh Wine Under Wings fund raiser at Wilson Air was once again a financial success and drew raves from those in attendance.  Supported by Navy fleet aircraft from Virginia-based squadrons, Navy training command and Coast Guard aircraft from the Gulf Coast, local antique aircraft, wine vendors and the Memphis Knights swing band for entertainment, it was truly a great evening.  Over the years, this undertaking has afforded us the means to increase our financial support of the local commands, scholarships, awards, and other causes. Wine Under Wings 2015 is now scheduled for October 1, so please mark this date on your calendar to attend this interesting and entertaining event.

Navy League Memphis will wind up the year with an annual Christmas Brunch in December. Once again, we will contribute to the USMCR Toys for Tots Program by each of us bringing toys to be collected and distributed by the local Marines and Sea Cadets. It is also the meeting where we present our new officers and conduct whatever business we may have to discuss.

Membership in the Navy League is open to anyone not on active duty and we welcome those of you who might be interested.   Please consider joining us by joining the Navy League! We look forward to seeing you soon. See our Mission Page and then click on the Membership Application Page to join!
